An R-Type running tool is a special tool used to run and set R/RN type lock mandrel. It can set the type R/RN lock mandrel into R/RN landing nipple selectively.

The R-Type running tool consists of fishing neck, inner sleeve, stop pin, main spring, spring housing, dog spring, split ring, locator dog, dog housing, crescent slide, retainer dog and mandrel. Enclosed is the assembly drawing.
If type RN landing nipple is below several type X landing nipple, it is ok to run under the selective model to save the top shear pin when the packing is running through the seal segment of landing nipple during jarring. Move to the non-selective model when it is running in the last type R landing nipple above the type RN landing nipple.
