A wireline hydraulic jar is a wireline service tool designed for dependable upward jarring during wireline operations.

Wireline Hydraulic Jar Introduction

When a strain is taken on the wireline the top sub and mandrel are pulled upward while the piston is impeded in its upward movement by the hydraulic fluid. This delaying action allows sufficient strain to be taken on the line to strike a blow of the required intensity.

When the piston passes from the restricted cylinder bore to the enlarged section, fluid resistance ceases allowing the mandrel to travel upward at great speed to strike the middle body insert and transmit the jarring force. The Jar is closed for repeat operation by slacking off tool string weight as many times as necessary to complete the operation.

Wireline Hydraulic Jar Notes

1. Don't connect the hydraulic oil under the link jar so as to reduce the downward jarring force of link jar due to the damping of hydraulic oil.

2. Usually, the delay of hydraulic jar depends on the size of viscosity and tension of hydraulic oil, but the delayed time shall not be less than 30s.

3. The hydraulic jar only has the function of upward jarring and cannot be used for downward jarring.
